Data Sources, Transparency and Liability

This page provides information on the origin, processing and legal classification of the data displayed on SeaSpots, in particular with regard to public directories and map layers.

A direct link to the full privacy policy is available in the footer of this page.

1. Distinction Between Types of Content

SeaSpots provides different types of content:

a) Aggregated and automatically processed data from public sources
b) Editorial content created by the operator
c) Content provided by users (where applicable)

These areas are technically and editorially separated and labelled within the platform.

The following information relates in particular to content from public and external data sources.

2. Data Sources

Information on registered fishing and tourism businesses is sourced in part from the following publicly accessible sources:

  • Fiskeridirektoratet (catch and registration data)
  • Brønnøysundregistrene (company register)
  • Publicly accessible websites of the respective providers, to the extent that their content does not preclude automated retrieval (e.g. through technical protection measures or terms of use)

Additional supplementary information may be obtained from freely accessible sources.

3. Data Processing and Preparation

The data mentioned above is collected, reconciled, enriched and structured automatically.

The following processes may be applied, among others:

  • Matching of address and location data
  • Geocoding and plausibility checks
  • Consolidation of multiple data sources
  • Retrieval of publicly accessible booking and contact information

Data is generally updated at regular intervals (e.g. monthly). Despite careful processing, technical errors, time delays or discrepancies in content cannot be excluded.

4. Currency and Accuracy

The information provided is reviewed and updated on a regular basis.

Nevertheless, no warranty is given for the completeness, currency or accuracy of the data displayed.

The information provided by the respective providers or authorities is always authoritative.

5. Neutrality and No Endorsement

The presentation of businesses, locations or listings on SeaSpots does not constitute a recommendation, rating, ranking or quality statement.

Inclusion in directories or map layers is based exclusively on objective and technical criteria.

6. Copyright and Third-Party Content

SeaSpots extracts from public sources only factual information (such as names, addresses, phone numbers and coordinates) — no copyrighted texts, images or other works of third parties.

Links to external websites are provided for informational purposes only. The operators of those external sites are solely responsible for their content.

7. Data Protection and Legal Basis

To the extent that personal data is processed in the course of aggregation, this is done on the basis of a legitimate interest pursuant to Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.

The legitimate interest arises from the public's interest in transparent and comparable information on tourist and fishing-related offerings in Norway. This interest regularly outweighs the impact on the data subjects, as predominantly publicly accessible business contact data is processed and no special categories of personal data are involved.

Data subjects have the statutory rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing and objection pursuant to Arts. 15–22 GDPR.

Further information is available in the Privacy Policy of SeaSpots.

Processing is subject to the GDPR in conjunction with the Norwegian Personal Data Act (Personopplysningsloven). Complaints may be directed to the Norwegian Data Protection Authority, Datatilsynet.

8. Corrections, Additions and Contact

Operators, businesses or other affected parties may report incorrect or incomplete information at any time.

Requests for corrections, claims or amendments may be submitted via:

claims@seaspots.net

Legitimate adjustments will be made promptly following review.

9. Disclaimer

Use of the information displayed is at the user's own risk.

Liability for material or immaterial damages arising from the use or non-use of the information provided is excluded to the extent permitted by law.

10. Claim, Verification and Removal

Operators of a listed business may verify ("claim"), correct or request a review of their listing.

Where the information displayed has been obtained from publicly accessible, lawfully collected sources and is accurately reproduced, there is generally no right to complete removal.

However, where a breach of data protection regulations exists, the information is demonstrably incorrect, or overriding legitimate interests are present, the data will be deleted or corrected.

Requests are assessed on a case-by-case basis.

11. Use of the Aggregated Data

The aggregated database displayed on SeaSpots is protected by database producer rights (sui generis database right).

Protection subsists for 15 years from the date of completion of the database or the last material change to its content.

Systematic commercial reuse, reproduction or distribution of the data requires the prior consent of the operator.
